A weight lifting team representing Gold's Gym in Gainesville won the Georgia State Open Powerlifting and Bench Championships on Saturday in Athens.

Six members of the Kidd's Crew, coached by Mike Kidd, placed first in their respective events, all of them breaking state and national records in the process.

With a bench press of 424 pounds, Chris Scott of Gainesville won the 220-pound class in the open division. Scott beat out Gainesville's Jody Freeman, who placed second.

George Bradley of Gainesville benched 236 to win the 148-pound class in the 45-49 Masters age division. Steven Faulkner, a graduate of West Hall High, won the 18-19 year-old division in the 198-pound weight class with a bench of 435 pounds.

Current North Hall High student Wes Oldman benched 363 to win the 308-pound weight class in the 16-17 year old division. Jefferson's Caleb Maddox, who benched 451 pounds, placed first in the 198-pound Juniors division.

Jefferson's Steve Smith, who benched 363, placed first in the 35-39 sub-master division in the 220-pound weight class.

Al Hunter of Athens placed second in the 242-pound Masters division with a bench of 446.
