As of yesterday, September 16, 2005, Bobby Ritchie and Langley Lavens were arrested by the Hall County police.  Ritchie was arrested on charges of first degree murder and resisting arrest.  Lavens was arrested on charges of second degree murder and accessory to homocide.  While Langely went quietly with cops to the police station Bobby's arrest went slightly different.

When told that he was being arrested he quickly jumped into his mothers old bronco and sped off down the road.  Cops acted quickly by following.  It ended up turning into a five hour high speed chase. Ritchie was taken into custody when he had to stop at a Quick Trip for gas.  He led the cops on a high speed chase where he was going 35 mph and the cops 30 mph. The two arrested were put in separate jail cells, as to prevent any conversing between the suspected.  They did not want any stories created, because they didn't want police to find out anything.  The two were given, separately, a polygraph.  They both failed, miserably.  This will be admitted into evidence.

Both will be given state appointed attourneys since neither can afford one of their own.  State's evidence is mounted high and it has already been determined by a grand jury that this case will go to trial.  The prosecution has the results of the two failed lie detector tests, the bottle of chloroform found under Ritchie's sink, the stab wounds, the autopsy report, the knife connected with the murder.  In addition to the knife itself, they found Ritchie's finger prints on the knife.  Also, they have 2 witnesses who claims that the two friends had the carpet steam cleaned the next day and when they couldn't get it all cleaned thourghouly threw out a bloody carpet.

Langley Lavens will plead to guilty by reason of insanity, due to the fact that he was taking the drug Zoloft at the time of the murder.  Bobby Ritchie plans to plead not guilty the first degree murder charge.  The two, Ritchie and Lavens, will be tried individually.  If Ritchie is found guilty, by a trial jury (12 members), he could face 25 years to life, more than likely life.  Lavens, if found guily, by the 12 jury members, on both counts, will face 15 years for accessory and 45 years for second degree murder.  The trial date is set for January 25, 2006 and bail is set at $5,450 for both of the defendants.  Cameras have been allowed in this courtroom setting, and therefore will be shown on Court TV.  We will keep you updated on the trial.
